Wyoming CNA Program Basics
To become a CNA in the state of Wyoming, an aspiring candidate must be at least 16 years old. Some colleges in the state even consider a CNA training program as a prerequisite to entering a nursing course while some people consider it as a stepping-stone in a healthcare career. A GED is not a requirement in order to become a CNA in Wyoming, though most colleges require a high school diploma or GED before a potential student can enrol in one of the nursing courses.
Wyoming CNA Training Requirements
- All CNA training courses offered in Wyoming have a classroom portion and another segment that is considered to be more intensive – the manual skills training.
- Both sections of the training course are important for CNA students.
- The clinical training is generally shorter than classroom study but it is much more intensive.
- The class discussions cover all of the topics needed to prepare the trainee for the manual or clinical training portion.
- At the start of the clinical or hands on training, students will first watch and observe as an experienced nurse provides care to patients, then participate themselves under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Some employers who offer in-facility training allow students in their final week of the course to work with an experienced CNA on the floor or in a unit.
- This will help the CNA students to prepare themselves in fulfilling their jobs and to get to know patients that they will be interacting in a daily basis.
Wyoming CNA Certification Transfer
- All Nurse Aides that wish to transfer their certification from their home states must provide proof that they have completed a training course which is compliant with Wyoming’s federal standards.
- If the training course taken does not meet the state’s federal standards, the nursing aide will need to take a Wyoming approved CNA training course.
- If the nurse aide has completed a course that does comply with the state’s requirements, he or she must prove that the certificate being transferred is in good standing and submit to a criminal background check.
- Any charges of patient abuse or neglect will automatically disqualify the CNA from working in any facility in the state of Wyoming.
Wyoming CNA Examination Information
- The CNA final examination is composed of two segments, a written and a manual skills test.
- This certification assessment is similar to those being given in all 50 states.
- The written exam has 72 multiple-choice questions and the examinee must receive a passing score before the test administrator assesses their clinical skills.
- During the clinical portion, the student will demonstrate five skills that were taught in training.
- The examinee will perform these clinical exercises on the test facilitator, an actor or another student that has already passed the exam.
Wyoming CNA Certification Renewal
- Renewal of certification in Wyoming is required every two years and the CNA must provide proof that they have been paid to work for at least 8 hours in the preceding 24 months.
- Incomplete renewal documents or failure to submit all required forms will cause the certificate to lapse.
- The nurse aide will need to retake the training course as well as the assessment once his or her certificate lapses.
