CNA Classes Online

It is possible to take online CNA classes and very many students have passed their CNA certification studying in this way. There are many online tuition providers so you should check the facility out before making a decision to study there. The material they teach must be up to date and you need to be aware that there may be slight differences in the material you study and the requirements in your local state. Studying at a local college ensures you cover the local laws but so long as you are aware of potential issues you should be ok.

Are Online CNA Classes Sufficient?

You cannot complete your full CNA training by studying online. To become a certified nursing assistant your practical patient care skills will also be tested and not just the theory you have learned at the online classes. As your day to day duties will involve a lot of basic patient care it makes sense that the exam should ensure you know how to dress or bathe someone who is incapacitated due to illness, accident or age.

The nursing assistant will spend the most time with patients

The nursing assistant is often the member of the medical team that patients will have the most contact with and it is vital for everyone that they are properly trained. In an ideal world they should offer the patient some companionship. People are often scared when they have to stay in hospital or in long term care facilities even if they are only facing a minor procedure. The benefit of being treated like a human being with respect and empathy at all times has been proved to work wonders in helping the patient return to health. Some patients such as those with Alzheimer’s and similar conditions will also benefit from being treated professionally and with real caring.

As a nursing assistant you should be the first one to notice any deterioration in the patient’s condition as they will monitor what the patient eats and how often they use the toilet facilities. As soon as they notice any changes, good or bad, they should alert the nursing staff.

Do certified nursing assistants provide medical treatments?

Although a certified nursing assistant doesn’t make any medical assessments or provide medical treatments, they do record the patients vital signs such as blood pressure, weight etc. The medical staff including the doctors will use this information when making decisions on the most appropriate patient care including the type and quantities of drugs used. It is very important they make the right decisions and this isn’t possible if the vital signs have been incorrectly measured or recorded. Long term care facilities are very wary of litigation cases including patient neglect and wrongful death claims. It is in the interest of everyone involved that all elements of the medical team are properly trained.

Once I pass my CNA certification, have I finished studying?

You will need to attend online CNA classes or offline, when you are studying for your certification exams. But your study doesn’t stop when you become qualified. You may have to complete a certain number of hours of professional education every year. The exact number will depend on the state you work in and the certifying body you have qualified with.
