Oklahoma CNA Program Basics
To become a certified nurse aide in the state of Oklahoma, an applicant must register and complete a CNA training course. The state had approved many of these training courses, many of which are in-facility and are provided at no cost to aspiring CNAs. Most employers have training courses that are for pay. Such training programs allow students to receive a small amount of hourly pay, typically minimum wage until the students are able to finish the training and obtain certification. The employer then may require that the nurse aide work for a certain period of time in the facility. After the nurse aide is certified, the rate of his or her pay is increase to meet the industry standard of the state.
Oklahoma CNA Training Requirements
- Aspiring CNAs will participate in a 70-hour or more training which includes both classroom instruction and clinical training.
- The classroom studies include essential topics about basic nursing care such as infection control, patient personal care, and emergency response procedure.
- This portion of the training program prepares the trainees for the hands on instruction, which will ultimately give them the skills needed to work as certified nurse aides in a long-term setting.
- Manual or clinical skills training takes place inside the classroom at first and hands on exercises are usually performed on the instructor or classmates.
- Later in the course, the CNA students will be given a chance to work with real patients under the supervision of their training instructor.
Oklahoma CNA Examination Information
- At the end of the training course, the students should have gained all the information and skills they need to challenge the CNA final assessment.
- This state mandated exam is set up in the same way as the training program thus also includes a written portion and a manual skills test.
- After successfully passing the written portion of the assessment, the student will proceed to the clinical skills evaluation.
- Examinees must pass both sections of the assessment to receive their certification that enables them to work as certified nurse aides in any facilities across Oklahoma State.
Oklahoma CNA Certification Renewal
- Renewal of certification is based on the federal recommendation of twenty-four months.
- A certified nurse aide must have worked at least 8 hours in a 48-hour period during the previous twenty-four months to qualify for renewal of their certification.

- The state will send the required paperwork to the aide’s home or employer at least a month before the expiration of certification.
- The employer or aide must complete the paperwork in full in order for the renewal to be issued.
