New Hampshire CNA Certification and Licensing

New Hampshire CNA Program Basics

Much like in the state of Nevada, New Hampshire requires all aspiring CNAs to present two fingerprint cards. Furthermore, all applicants must also submit two small photos of passport-size and all necessary documentations in proving up to date immunizations. Instead of a vaccination card, titers can also be used as an alternative. Unless the applicant has been proven to have a negative TB test result in the last 6 months, a TB test is required to be performed.

New Hampshire CNA Training Requirements

  • Potential nurse aides are required to enter a CNA training course before sitting for the state’s CNA final examination.
  • All CNA training courses in the state of New Hampshire last approximately 8 to 13 weeks and are over the federally mandated 75 hours in length.
  • The course includes both classroom and clinical training.
  • The duration of the training course varies depending on the school or employer that offers the program.
  • Other schools may have additional requirements prior to entry of students.
  • Most employers require that the students be at least 18 years of age with a clean criminal background.
  • High school diploma or GED may or may not be required by some schools.

New Hampshire CNA Certification Reciprocity

  • Certified Nurse Aides from other states may request to take the state examination without undergoing a training course or may apply for reciprocity.
  • The nursing assistant must present all of the same documentations as a New Hampshire resident, along with a proof of his or her previous CNA certification with another state.
  • The certificate or license must be in good standing, with no charges of abuse or neglect.
  • All reciprocity applicants are required to submit to a federal criminal background check which will be ran before any certificate is issued, regardless of the outcome of the state assessment.

New Hampshire CNA Examination Information

  • The final CNA assessment is composed of two parts as per federal regulations.
  • One portion is for a written test while the other is for a clinical (manual skills) evaluation.
  • Both sections of the assessment are mandatory for the student to pass prior to the awarding of certificate.
  • The test administrator will select up to five skills for the student to demonstrate.
  • Each clinical exercise must be performed exactly as trained or the examinee will not pass that the clinical assessment portion.

New Hampshire CNA Certification Renewal

  • The state will mail a renewal form about 2 to 3 months before the CNA’s certificate expires.
  • The renewal packet must be filled out accurately and returned prior to the due date to keep the CNA license active.
  • The nurse aide must have been employed and compensated during the last 24-months period.
  • If employed in a facility, the employer may need to fill out some of the forms to prove that the nursing assistant has been performing his or her role as required.
  • A lapse may result in the CNA needing to retake the CNA assessment.
