Nevada CNA Program Basics
Obtaining a CNA certification in the state of Nevada can be an overwhelming process at first. To start with the certification process, aspiring nurse aides must first accomplish an application form to verify if they are qualified for the state approved training course. The application form can be downloaded from the state’s board of nursing website. Another option is to have the form mailed by the state’s board of nursing to the applicant’s home address.
Nevada CNA Training Requirements
- Once the application is validated, the applicant may now enter a state approved CNA training course.
- The state of Nevada requires that all applicants also have 2 fingerprint cards which can be acquired from a local police or sheriff’s station.
- To make sure that the board of nursing collects the fingerprints in time for the process of registry entry, it is recommended to prepare the cards before applying or during the first day training.
Nevada CNA Training Courses
- All CNA training courses in the state of Nevada are 75hours or more in duration.
- At least 60 hours of the total training length must be in a form of instruction, both classroom and hands on.
- Majority of the training courses in Nevada are longer than the federally mandated 75 hours.
- Topics covered in the training program include abuse and neglect, emergency response, fire safety, infection control and patient care.
- During the near end of the course, student aides may work in a clinical setting under the supervision of an experienced nurse, usually a Registered Nurse.
- If the training course is being taken in an employer’s facility, the students may offer health care assistance to residents while working with experienced CNAs.
Nevada CNA Examination Information
- Once the course is finished, a certification assessment will be scheduled for the entire class.
- The test facilitator will give a written exam, then a manual skills evaluation.
- The written exam must be passed before the examinee can move on to the hands on section of the assessment.
- Both sections of the assessment must receive a passing score in order for the student to obtain certification.
- If the examinee failed to pass the test, the exam can be retaken.
- Failure to pass the assessment in 3 attempts will result in the student needing to retake the entire training course.
Nevada CNA Certification Reciprocity
- CNAs from other states may apply to have their license transferred to Nevada.
- The nurse aide will be required to present all of the same information as a Nevada resident- proof of identity, fingerprints, and an application for out of state endorsement.
- The out of state endorsement will include the CNA’s certification from the state where he or she is transferring from.
- The certification being transferred must be active and in good standing.
- The nurse aide must have a clean criminal record.
Nevada CNA Certification Renewal
- Certification or license renewal is the same as in other states in the US.
- The nurse aide must have worked and paid for at least 8 hours during the last 24 months.
- The CNA will also be required to fill out the forms sent by the state’s board of nursing and return accordingly.
- If employed by a nursing facility, the CNA’s employer may accomplish most of the forms for renewal and also submit a proof of employment.
