Montana CNA Program Basics

The state of Montana offers numerous training options to all people who are interested in becoming a CNA.  All nurse aides must have completed at least 75 hours of training as per the state’s federal regulations. The training course must include classroom studies and clinical or hands on training. This training course is being offered by most community centers, community colleges, high schools and employers or healthcare facilities throughout the state of Montana.

Montana CNA Training Requirements

  • To be eligible to challenge the CNA certification assessment exam, applicants must have completed the state approved training course or have completed training in a similar healthcare field.
  • Those who have finished a different type of training but meets the requirements and qualifications set forth by the state may be allowed to take the certification assessment.
  • Nursing students are eligible to sit for the examination, as these students have completed a coursework that includes topics about nursing basics similar to or surpassing those set forth in nurse aide training programs.
  • The training course includes basic nursing, patient rights, personal emergency safety, infection control, fire safety as well as topics about general HIPPA standards for all healthcare workers.

Montana CNA Examination Requirements

  • The Montana CNA assessment exam is similar to all assessments given by all 50 states in the US.
  • It includes a written test portion and a manual skills evaluation.
  • The written test must be passed with a satisfactory score before an examinee can move on to the manual part of the assessment.
  • In the clinical skills evaluation, the test administrator will select up to 5 skills that a nurse aide will be performing on a regular basis.
  • Patient transfer, taking vitals, dressing or even brushing teeth/dentures may be chosen as the skills to be performed or demonstrated.
  • The manual skills evaluation test will be performed on a classmate or on the test facilitator.

Montana CNA Certification Reciprocity

  • Compared to some states, transferral of license or certification to Montana from another state is a simple process.
  • The CNA that wishes to transfer his or her certification to the state Montana must provide proof of identification, proof of an active certification in the state they were certified in and Montana residency.
  • The CNA certificate must be in good standing with no allegations or charges of neglect or abuse of patients.
  • The transferring CNA must provide all necessary documentations and fill out an Interstate Endorsement form.
  • After a satisfactory evaluation, the CNA will be receiving a Montana CNA certification.

Montana CNA Certification Renewal

  • Certification renewal is being handled according to the federal regulations set forth by the government of Montana.
  • Nursing Assistants must have worked and have been paid for at least 8 hours in the preceding 24 months in either a facility or a private setting.
  • CNAs that have worked in a private setting will be required to present proof of their employment.
  • Renewal fees are to be settled at the time of the renewal process and all documents must be submitted on or before the certificate’s expiration.
  • The state Montana doesn’t have any grace period for lapsed certifications or licenses.
