Hawaii CNA Program Basics
All aspiring nursing assistants in Hawaii must complete a state-approved CNA training course that is not less than 100 hours in duration. The program must offer 30 hours of classroom studies and 70 hours of clinical or hands on training. Classroom discussions include basic instructions on how to complete personal care for patients, HIPPA, patients’ rights, infection control and other essential nursing topics. Clinical training uses all kinds of hands-on approaches on various nursing topics to allow students to practice what have been discussed during classroom sessions. A Registered Nurse is the one responsible for supervising all clinical instructions.
Hawaii CNA Certification
- All students who completed the nurse aide training course must take the Hawaii CNA certification assessment.
- The state examination is consisted of two parts: clinical and written test.
- The two sections of the CNA state assessment must both receive a passing mark in order to obtain CNA certification.
- Otherwise, the examinee can re-take the examination on another day with a maximum of 3 tries.
- In any case that the student failed to pass the exam after 3 attempts, he or she will be required to undergo the CNA training course again.
- A criminal background check is done before certification is awarded.
- With this, any record of violent crimes or patient abuse or neglect will serve as basis of disqualification.
Hawaii CNA Certification Renewal
- In the state of Hawaii, it is mandated that CNAs should renew their license every 2 years.
- The CNA will get a notification to renew from the state’s Nurse Aide Registry.
- Prior to the renewal process, CNAs must proved that they have performed the duties of a nursing assistant in a nursing facility, or in any institution that paid him/her for employment in the past 24 months.
- Any nursing job without pay will not be validated.
Hawaii CNA Certification Reciprocity
- A certified nursing assistant from another state may be permitted to transfer his or her license to Hawaii provided that the certification to be transferred is active and in good standing.
- As with renewal, the CNA must present all documents that will prove that he/she have been employed and paid as a nursing aide in the past 24 months.
