If you are thinking of undertaking CNA training you want to make sure the course you complete is recognized and counts toward the certified nursing assistant certification. You can work as a nursing assistant without any formal qualifications.  But your career prospects and remuneration will increase considerably when you complete your CNA training.

Is it possible to find free CNA training?

You may have read that it is possible to find free CNA training.  This is true to a point.  Although you may not have to part with any cash, you will probably find that there are conditions attached to the free nursing assistant training.  Some employers will take you through the certification process but in return you have to guarantee that you will continue to work for the Company for a certain period of time. Different companies will have varying demands with some employers wanting you to stay for six months while others insist on at least 12 or 18 months.  The key is to read the contract carefully so you know in advance how much of your career the free CNA training is going to cost you.

What about online CNA training?

If you are currently working, you may struggle to find time to attend certified nursing assistant classes.  This can become even more of a problem if you have little ones at home.  Online CNA training may be the answer. You will be able to study at your own pace and to suit your particular time schedule.  But online computer based training isn’t for everyone.  Some people just cannot motivate themselves to sit at the computer and study.  They need the discipline attached to attending a weekly or fortnightly class. How long does certified nursing assistant training take?

A lot depends on how fast you can work through the study material but you should complete your training within a couple of months. If you want to sit your CNA certification you have to apply to your local center. You may also have to sit State exams.  The requirements differ from State to State and so are worth checking into.

How much does a certified nursing assistant make?

It depends on where the CNA works as well as his or her level of experience and qualifications.  The mid cna salary range is about $25,000 but some more specialized certified nursing assistants earn over $30,000.  This isn’t really a medical role you enter for the sake of the remuneration package although the more varied your experience the better your chances of a higher rate of pay.  Most people who have been though CNA programs will either continue studying to become a qualified registered nurse or will be doing the job as they love working with people.

Your future employer isn’t likely to mind where or how you achieved your CNA training.   What matters more if your attitude towards working with sick people, your experience and your overall suitability for the position.  Once you have completed your CNA training and any relevant State examinations if applicable, you may have to recertify on an annual basis.  In some States you don’t have to recertify for two years post qualification.
