Should you take CNA classes if you want to pass your certified nursing assistant certification? The short answer is probably yes. It makes sense that when you are doing something as important as your CNA certification that you give yourself the best possible chance of success. Some people study very well on their own initiative using a course book but most will benefit from instructor lead training and the commitment of having to attend scheduled classes. If you decide that CNA classes are not for you, try to improve your chance of CNA exam success by completing as many multiple choice past papers as you can lay your hands on.

Some people find that attending CNA classes online is the best method of study for them personally. If you have a job and a family you can find it difficult to get time to attend CNA classes at your local school or college facility. You may have to find a child-minder and this can add to the cost. You also have to find time to study the material and practice the CNA test.

The legislation and procedures involved with patient care can change. An example of this would be the major change in CPR guidelines introduced by the American Heart Association in 2010. Think about attending local classes. If you attend CNA classes in Michigan you have a better chance of covering the information relevant to the Michigan State exam than if you had attended an online CNA class as local regulations can be slightly different.
Your local CNA test center will also be aware of the procedures relating to the State exams. Some states will require you to sit an additional state certification exam in addition to your CNA test whereas others will combine the two. Some will require a written exam while others work with oral tests.
Be Wary of Free CNA classes
Some people will look for free cna training classes, but you have to be careful. Think about why anyone would offer you free CNA certification training? Some employers will advertise jobs saying that they include free CNA class and training. If you read the small print on your contract you may find that you are obliged to stay in the role for “x” amount of time or you will be liable for CNA training fees of “x” amount of money. It can be a great idea to combine your certificate nursing assistant certification with on the job experience not least because you are earning a salary while studying. But some people find that they could qualify for a higher paid job at another hospital or residential care facility after they achieve CNA certification but are now tied into the contract as their employer provided free CNA classes.
Your employer may offer subsidized Red Cross CNA training which is an excellent benefit and one you should strongly consider. The Red Cross has an international reputation for delivering quality training and often employers will favor those candidates who completed their certified nursing assistant training via the Red Cross over those that attended CNA classes online.
