Arizona CNA Program Specifics
Arizona’s CNA training program covers basic medical nursing skills, including detailed coverage of personal care, CPR and medical terminology. Students are given training in end of life care, providing assistance to the care of patients in a hospice-type setting. Programs also include social training to help potential CNAs in relating to and emotionally supporting their patients. Arizona high school students have the opportunity by certain training programs to enroll and work toward passing the state CNA examination. Because most nursing facilities don’t accept minor employees, an applicant who has completed the training and wishes to be considered for a position as a CNA, must be at least 18 years old.
CNA Requirements and Certification
- Arizona performs a thorough criminal background check on all prospective nursing assistants.
- Any applicant with a history of abuse or neglect in previous nursing jobs will not be qualified to obtain Arizona CNA certification. This includes a CNA wishing to transfer a license from another state to Arizona.
- To be eligible for the CNA certification exam, students must be enrolled in a qualified training program and complete at least 75 hours of classroom studies and clinical training.
Arizona CNA Certification Transfer
- CNAs wishing to transfer a valid license or certificate from another state may file a petition with the Arizona State Board of Nursing rather than repeating a training program and examination.
- A transferral fee may apply.
- In some cases, an employer may pay for or reimburse the cost of the certification transfer.
